Bottom line in one sentence
Microsoft currently appears to be the most balanced, Amazon has the greatest infrastructure leverage, Alphabet has the deepest AI technology - but all three have to prove that AI not only produces sales, but also free cash flow.
The market in 2026
AI demand drives cloud growth and semiconductor prices. At the same time, investors are watching cloud margins, depreciation, electricity costs and whether AI products really justify higher ARPUs.
SmartDeer assessment
For long-term investors, pullbacks are more interesting than hype purchases. The direction is strong for all three stocks - the entry price remains, as always, the little spoilsport.

| alphabet GOOGL | 343,71 USD | 4,159 billion | 422.6 billion | 17,5% | 26,0 | 9,8 | 33,5% | 14,6% | Strongest balance sheet/AI research base, but the market is now pricing in a lot of optimism. For AI: very strong in quality, operationally dependent on cloud momentum and search restructuring. |
| Microsoft MSFT | 352,83 USD | 2,620 billion | 318.3 billion | 17,9% | 20,9 | 8,2 | 30,2% | 35,0% | The best “AI monetizer” in the trio: cloud + software + distribution. If CapEx remains efficient, Microsoft is the most robust AI compounder. |

AI outlook
What decides the winner?
The investment logic
Cloud used to be a scaling business with declining unit costs. AI turns the volume control up to the limit: GPUs, proprietary chips, networks, power, cooling and data centers devour capital before sales become visible. The winners will not only be those with the largest CapEx budget, but those with the best utilization, the strongest software premium and the most credible margin.
Best mix right now
Azure growth, Copilot upsell, GitHub, security and enterprise data access create the most well-rounded AI monetization path. Boring? Perhaps. But boring with margin is often insultingly effective in the stock market.
GOOGL · Google Cloud
Alphabet: growth, valuation and AI leverage
AI outlook
- Vertically integrated AI stack: TPUs, Axion CPUs, NVIDIA GPUs, Gemini/Gemma and cloud products.
- AI Overviews, AI Mode and agentic search move search from the link directory towards the response and transaction platform.
- Google Cloud benefits greatly from GenAI, cybersecurity and TPU offerings; The cloud margin has recently expanded significantly.
Current cloud momentum: Google Cloud +63% YoY in Q1 2026; Backlog approx. 462 billion USD
Investment assessment
Strongest balance sheet/AI research base, but the market is now pricing in a lot of optimism. For AI: very strong in quality, operationally dependent on cloud momentum and search restructuring.
Risk: Very high CapEx plans (2026: USD 180-190 billion) raise the bar. Search monetization needs to prove that AI doesn't eat up advertising margins.
Analyst view: 2028 Q4 revenue estimate Ø $186.5 billion per quarter; Analyst target most recently Ø 432.5 USD (May 2026).
MSFT · Azure / Server & Cloud
Microsoft: growth, valuation and AI leverage
AI outlook
- Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Security Copilot and Foundry make AI not just an infrastructure topic, but a software ARPU topic.
- AI Revenue Run Rate Over $37B and +123% YoY; M365 copilot over 20 million paid seats.
- Strong enterprise distribution: Microsoft can sell AI into existing workflows, not just to developer teams.
Current cloud momentum: Azure +40% YoY in Q3 FY2026; Microsoft Cloud $54.5 billion quarterly revenue
Investment assessment
The best “AI monetizer” in the trio: cloud + software + distribution. If CapEx remains efficient, Microsoft is the most robust AI compounder.
Risk: Despite high investments, Azure remains capacity limited; Cloud gross margin suffers from GPUs, power, memory and increasing Copilot usage.
Analyst view: 2028 Q2 revenue estimate Ø $120.1 billion per quarter; Analyst target most recently Ø 538.9 USD (April 2026).
AMZN · AWS
Amazon: growth, valuation and AI leverage
AI outlook
- AWS remains the largest independent infrastructure player, winning through Bedrock, SageMaker, AgentCore and Custom Silicon.
- Trainium/Graviton are intended to improve price-performance and reduce dependence on external accelerators.
- AI has a double effect: as an AWS growth driver and as an efficiency lever in retail, ads, logistics, Alexa/Rufus and internal developer processes.
Current cloud momentum: AWS +28% YoY in Q1 2026; approximately USD 150 billion annualized run rate
Investment assessment
The strongest infrastructure lever, but also the most capital intensive. AWS can monetize huge AI demand – but the market will be merciless on cash flow conversion.
Risk: CapEx is brutally high (management spoke of around USD 200 billion in investment requirements), while free cash flow can fluctuate in the short term. Retail dilutes the pure cloud story.
Analyst view: 2028 Q4 revenue estimate Ø $336.6 billion per quarter; Analyst target most recently Ø 315.7 USD (May 2026).
Outlook
What investors should watch now
Positive triggers
- Azure, AWS and Google Cloud continue to grow significantly faster than group sales.
- Cloud/AI margins are stabilizing despite higher depreciation.
- Copilot, Bedrock, Gemini and Agent products show recurring, not just experimental, demand.
- Custom Silicon lowers costs per token and reduces bottlenecks.
Warning signs
- CapEx grows faster than sales and operating cash flow.
- AI sales remain strong, but gross margins are permanently tipping downwards.
- Regulation, energy prices or chip/memory shortages reduce the return on investment.
- Search or retail core business finances AI without benefiting from it.
Final takeaway
Assessment at the current price level
Microsoft is the clearest AI monetizer because AI goes directly into existing enterprise software. Amazon is the purest infrastructure lever on AI demand, but cash flow remains the critical evidence. alphabet is perhaps the most technologically exciting, but it has to clearly explain the restructuring of Search and the gigantic CapEx path.
For conservative long-term investors, there is a lot to be said for staggered entries instead of all-in after strong price phases. The thesis is strong, but in the AI cycle the following applies: Anyone who builds data centers can become gold diggers - or rent out very expensive sockets.
